Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) Program 2018
2018 Jul 03-Aug 24
Session 1: July 3-13, Session 2: July 16-27, Session 3: July 30-Aug 10, Session 4: Aug 13-24
|Address||Rouge Beach, Toronto|
A Counsellor-in-training (CIT) program is available for teens aged 14-15 at our Canoe and Kayak Camp. This program is excellent preparation for teens hoping to work as camp counsellors or with children in the future.
Pickering Rouge Canoe and Kayak Camp is a fun, active day camp full of games, crafts and on-water activities. The Camp is located at Rouge Beach in Scarborough on the shores of the Rouge River and Lake Ontario in Canada’s largest urban park. Campers and CITs enjoy a BBQ lunch on Fridays.
CITs must possess a positive attitude and genuine interest in working with campers ages 6-13. Respect, cooperation and a high level of energy are all valued attributes that will be expected and will lead to a successful completion of the program. All CIT's will be required to complete the CIT Questionnaire which will be emailed shortly after registration.
The goal of the CIT program is to provide individuals with the opportunity to work with children in a camp setting while having the support and supervision of experienced camp staff. CITs develop skills in leadership, team work, water safety, positive communication and problem-solving. To successfully complete the program, CITs will be required to demonstrate appropriate levels of maturity, responsibility and enthusiasm. Participants will fill out a self-evaluation questionnaire and will receive a formal evaluation from PRCC camp staff. Upon successful conclusion of the program, CITs will receive a Certificate of Completion. We are happy to provide reference letters for future employment or volunteer positions upon request to successful participants.
Please note that as this is a registered paid program, participants will not receive volunteer hours for their participation. However, PRCC has many opportunities and events where students can earn volunteer hours. Please see PRCC’s website for details.
