PRCC will be operating all our programs in full compliance with Ministry of Health requirements. See our COVID-19 Response page for more information. We have made many changes to our programs and procedures to keep participants and staff safe.

PLEASE NOTE THAT PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING THEIR OWN LIFEJACKETS AS PART OF OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE PROCEDURES. If we are required to cancel the session in which you are registered, full refunds (prorated if mid-session) will be issued.

The Pickering Rouge Canoe Club is pleased to offer a safe, physically-distant paddling program for YOUTHS (9-14) who would like to navigate various self-propelled watercraft with other individuals (who will always remain six feet away). If you spent the last few years in a dragon boat, this is the perfect time to learn how to paddle under your own power!  (Note that a minimum of 4 paddlers must be registered in a time slot for that time slot to be run.)

What is the program?

The program will introduce participants to three different solo paddling experiences: 1) SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) 2) Pleasure Canoeing 3) Beginner level kayaks Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of each watercraft. Once a level of proficiency has been established, individuals will be allowed to traverse up river to get a unique perspective of the Rouge National Urban Park.  Participants will do 2 weeks of each paddling discipline.

When is the Program?

Youth Solo Paddling Together will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 until 7:20 p.m. (three staggered groups per night - please see below). The program will begin on the week of July 28th and will run through until September 1st. The program runs for a total of 6 weeks.

Where will the program take place?

Youth Solo Paddling Together will take place at our river site at the bottom of Lawrence Avenue.

How many people can join the program? How will we ensure physical distancing is maintained?

The program will begin with a cap of 18 or so participants each night. 6 participants will start at 6:00.  6 participants will start at 6:10, and 6 participants will start at 6:20.  The groups will be met by a coach who will get them quickly on the water, allowing the next group to get out their equipment. Each coach will travel with their own group of 6 so that we keep the proper participant ratio as set out by the provincial government. Each session will last for approximately one hour.

What do participants need to bring?

Participants must bring the following: life jacket, sunhat, water bottle, lysol wipes. paddles, boats and other equipment will be provided.

What is the cost of the program?

The cost of the program is $120.00 per session (one  1 hour session per week for 6 weeks).

Volunteer obligation:

The club is in the process of having to move its operations from Beachpoint Promenade. At some point we will need help moving boats, equipment etc. We ask that you donate two or three hours of your time to help us out. All participants must read and sign off that they have read the PRCC concussion code of conduct. See our page on Rowan's Law for full information. Participants become members of Pickering Rouge Canoe Club (PRCC) for the year of registration.
